Wanting a new idea for teaching speeches?

Well, it's probably not new, but new to me....in my Year 4 class we videoed ourselves presenting our practice speech. These videos were then loaded onto our class wiki page.

Our homework task was then to watch our video at home with our parents, mark ourselves against the success criteria we created and then chose two things that we wanted to focus on for our next speech.

My Year 4 class have been learning how to write reports. We have each written up a report and posted it onto our wiki.

The next step for us is to show our parents our wiki and then, with them, evaluate if we have included all the success criteria we had established before writing the report and what our next step is going to be.

Last Thursday and Friday a group of 5 children from Roydvale School presented a Breakout session at the 2010 Kids Congress (being held at Addington Raceway, in Christchurch).

The Roydvale children taught other children how to make a podcast using the application Garageband. This included learning how to record your own voice, add in sound effects and even make our own music!!! Here is an example of a podcast that was made. Not a podcast or video this time but a link to our wikispace page, where we have recently created some pages describing life in Early Canterbury (the area we live in). The children brainstormed questions at the start of the unit and then using the information we'd learned, plus online resources, answered the questions in the form of a wiki page.
